We survey, treat and remove Japanese knotweed across Liverpool and Merseyside: the Liverpool City Council area, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens, Halton and the Wirral. Choose your area below for local information, or call 07777 659786 if yours is not listed.
Liverpool
Across the city we work in north Liverpool neighbourhoods including Walton, Anfield and West Derby, where terraced streets with back entries and gardens close to rail lines are common places for knotweed to take hold. In south Liverpool we cover Wavertree and Allerton, with their mix of older houses and larger gardens, and down towards the river in Garston and Speke, where former industrial and dockside land sits close to housing.
Sefton
In Sefton we cover Bootle and Litherland, close to the docks and crossed by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, as well as Crosby and Maghull. Further up the coast we work in Southport. Rail corridors and the canal run through much of this borough, and knotweed often spreads along them into neighbouring gardens.
Knowsley
In Knowsley we cover Kirkby, Huyton and Prescot. These areas include large housing estates, newer developments and industrial land, so we see everything from a single garden stand to knotweed on development sites.
St Helens
We work across St Helens, where former industrial and brownfield land, railway lines and older housing all play a part in how knotweed has spread.
Halton
Either side of the Mersey, we cover Widnes and Runcorn. Riverside land, rail lines and redevelopment sites are all familiar settings here.
Wirral
On the Wirral we work in Birkenhead and Wallasey, where docks, rail lines and older terraced streets sit close together.
Why does knotweed turn up in so many parts of Merseyside?
Merseyside has a long industrial and maritime history, and that has left plenty of the conditions knotweed likes: railway embankments, canal towpaths, riverside land, former works and yards, and ground that has been cleared, filled and rebuilt over the years. Because knotweed spreads through fragments of rhizome and stem rather than seed, it tends to travel wherever soil, rubble and garden waste have been moved. That is why we find it in quiet suburban gardens as well as on obvious brownfield sites, and why a stand next door or on a nearby embankment is worth keeping an eye on.
Housing activity matters too. Buyers' surveyors across the region look for knotweed as a matter of routine, so a lot of our enquiries come from people part way through a sale or remortgage who need a survey and a management plan quickly. If that is your situation, tell us your deadline when you get in touch.
Other places we can help
The list above is not exhaustive. We can also help in places such as Netherton, Halewood, Rainhill, Newton-le-Willows and Ellesmere Port, and in many other areas around Merseyside. If you are not sure whether we cover your street, call or email and ask.
What we do wherever you are
The process is the same in every area. We ask for photos and where the plant is, then visit to survey, map the stand and measure its distance to buildings and boundaries. You get a written report, a plan setting out your options and a written quote. Depending on the site, that may involve herbicide treatment, excavation, a root barrier or monitoring, and we keep records of every visit.
